I think you deserve the accolades and the support you feel from this community. Your music and writings are worth the cost of subscribing. Your smile and laugh just add to the enjoyment of watching and listening to your posts. We truly thank you for sharing so much of your music and yourself on this platform. 💕
Just a short note. I can’t find it right now…it may have been on one of your music posts. But I promise it was there. It was a marker at the top that you had broken the top 100 and were at #89 in rising musical artists here on Substack. Just in case you missed it😊! If I do find it, or see it again, I’ll send a screenshot. ❤️🕊️
It’s something to do with who’s “trending” on the network at any given time. A ranking system of sorts on how many people are currently looking at your music vs others. Honestly 😂 I can’t tell you any more than that. I’m not that well-versed myself…I grew up in an analog world LONG before any of this was a thing. I manage…barely sometimes.
I don’t disagree about collaboration - it’s historical importance and value. But he’s not asking for collaborators, at least not in his posts here. If you’re open to a suggestion, consider approaching him privately via Substack’s direct message function. Then, if he chooses to take you up on your “dare” so be it. As regards your inability to perform and record your own compositions, I’m sorry. You have my sincere sympathy and empathy. I lost my ability to perform or even practice for seven years due to arthritis in both thumbs. I became depressed and felt my life was not worth living any more. But after two surgeries and rehabilitation I am back and playing better than ever. I wish for you something similar. Best of luck! Ask him privately. He seems like a delightful and giving soul. Maybe he’ll go for it. In the meantime let’s enjoy what he’s offering. Folks seem to like it. I certainly do.
I am so happy to hear your thumbs are back up and running…..!!! You must need them for bluegrass! That’s amazing to hear! The idea of not being able to play fills me with dread!! ♥️♥️ Paddy
Thank you for that kind reply. I am very glad we found a common frequency. Yes I have to admit you are right, I should have better gone with a direct message, but sometimes the fingers are bluegrass and head is slow blues ... no harm done anyway.
BTW that is a piece I wrote sometime ago as a classic guitar exercise, but then I started experimenting and found out it can be played in a bluegrass manner as well (you are bluegrass I have seen), or in a swing mood too ...
Hi there. Thank you for the kind offer. I am sorry I am struggling to find the time at the moment and I’m not sure I could give enough time to it to be fair to it. Sorry again. ♥️♥️ Paddy
Please don’t ask such a thing. Have the initiative to record you playing your music and post it on your own Substack. Don’t insert yourself into someone else’s creative effort.
With due respect Hubert, but that is a very bad, inaccurate, and inappropriate comment.
The history of music (which is per sé a creative effort) is full of collaborations of all types. There have been composers writing specifically for interpreting musicians, composers writing for whoever wanted to play their music, musicians who composed and played their own music, musicians who played only other composers’ music, etc. etc. any collaboration combination already existed in musical history. And that applies to all “kinds” of music (I hate categorising music, but here just as a reference for easier understanding), from most ancient ages, over baroque, renaissance, you name it, up to modern jazz, pop, rock, fusion, etc. etc.
Not needed that I cite you here examples be it from the past or from our present times, there are myriad of examples out there on the web.
Hence proposing a collab is by no means “inserting into someone else’s creative effort”. Actually would I be a mean person, I would name it being an insult.
Inversely, suppose someone by case reads my piece of music and likes it. And goes to play it. Should I say that musician is "inserting himself in my creative effort"? That is ridiculous. In fact I would be happy as it means my creation has confirmed its existence.
As an academically educated musician I had (unfortunately) a short lived (but intense) musical and performing career. It was many years ago. And I had tons of collaborations, in all directions. And nobody was "insulted" or "inserting" himself anywhere, or else. It was, and IT SHOULD ALWAYS BE only about MUSIC.
And everyone is free to choose. Someone may like collaborations, someone not.
Proposing a collaboration is not an insult and not "inserting" anything anywhere.
And there is likely a reason why I cannot perform my music right now. But that is another story which I will not elaborate, at least not here.
your music fills my soul with happiness in a world full of of despair. thank you my lovely man for your willingness to share your heart and music to all of us. i’m so grateful every time you come up in my feed. (cryptically) It reminds me of the scene in “titanic” where the beautiful musicians were playing music while the ship sank. I hope that makes sense. God bless you.
I wanted you to know that I looked your music up on Apple Music & found 6 songs which I downloaded into its own playlist. Love your music, please keep playing for us & put more on Apple Music for me (& others)please ❤️❤️❤️
Bruuuuutherrrr, you’re speaking my language every damned day (said in Mike Rice’s standup voice, not the podcast voice)!
If only it were possible to fly like a picaresque novel to Cornwall with my fiddle to jam with you on some picturesque bluff overlooking some sea, any sea, let’s see.
Just subscribed with payment because I support you and whatever you do. This is generally a supportive place. Just block the meanies. Some of them are bots anyway. Stay positive. Keep your dreams alive! 🩵

I’m always saying how analog I am too!!!!!
Paddy would you like trying something different here?
Would you dare playing my piece of music?
